No. 2 of my 2018 world series challenge is the Sydney Opera House.
The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts centre in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is one of the 20th century’s most famous and distinctive buildings. Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, the building was formally opened on 20 October 1973 and it occupies the whole of Bennelong Point on Sydney Harbour. The building comprises multiple performance venues which together host well over 1,500 performances annually, attended by more than 1.2 million people… although more than eight million tourists make trips to the site annually. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
The illustration is 29 x 29cm created with acrylic and ink on acrylic paper. The building is usually depicted with it’s white ‘sails’, but I enjoyed researching those images where the Summer sun crosses it’s prow… creating more subtle tones, including warm creamy colours and cool blues. So this is my soft light version of the iconic building!
