V&A Waterfront Cape Town by Artist Jonathan Chapman

No. 7 of my 2018 world series challenge is the V&A Waterfront Cape Town.

The coastal city of Cape Town (Kaapstad in Afrikaans) is the second-most populous urban area in South Africa after Johannesburg. It is also the capital and primate city of the Western Cape province. The city is famous for its harbour and for such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point. It is one of the most multicultural cities in the world and home to over 60% of the Western Cape’s population. Because of its position along one of the world’s busiest trade routes it is one of the busiest ports in South Africa.

The illustration is 39 x 29cm created with acrylic and ink on acrylic paper. We actually returned from a big family trip South Africa last week, and what a privilege it was to experience even a little bit of this country. The landscape was incredible, with the waterfront and the cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain inspiring this composition. Such a shame we didn’t have opportunity to venture much further than Cape Town and the Winelands. We’ve promised ourselves that we will return here… but in the meantime I have lots of inspirational photographs to work from!
