I have a straightforward landscape to share with you today, an unabashed colour study of Mt Rigi in Switzerland. It’s a subject you’ll have spotted plenty of times in my recent work! But as with Turner’s famous depictions of the ‘Queen of the Mountains‘ I find different things to work from ever time I attempt to capture the mountain in paint. This illustration has a simplicity with no foreground and Rigi’s peak at the heart of the image. The blue tones naturally run through the lake and clouds, but also live within the darker shadows of the mountain slopes.
Here’s the original acrylic and ink illustration Rigi Blues framed up for the studio wall. 39 x 29cm mounted within a 60 x 50cm black Nielsen frame. This piece has already found a home, but if you’d like to see Switzerland paintings that are currently available you can browse them all here.
