A couple of #PubPaintings to share with you today, a local Winchester scene too. Here’s ‘The Railway’, created with acrylic & ink on 13 x 13cm chunky canvas. The Railway Inn is a former Victorian Inn in Winchester. Now a renown intimate music venue hosting live bands, comedy and poetry night. Painted with acrylic and ink on two mini canvases… I had one of these sat half completed in my studio for some time. So long in fact, that the venue had a makeover. I wanted to finish that original study, but I thought an updated version would make an interesting pair.
Here’s the updated version ‘The Railway Inn’, acrylic & ink on the same size 13 x 13cm chunky canvas. I took the same vantage point but you can see the sleeker branding and hints of the nice gig posters on the board outside. The teal colour makes a nice contrast with the white walls too.I quite like that you can see the brush marks across the surface. Captured from a combination of a new high resolution camera phone and some different paint brands. When used quickly I can see the ‘Seawhite of Brighton‘ acrylic leaving interesting thick trails. These can be flattened out easily enough as you paint across the surface, but it’s great to have that extra dynamic to play with.
Here’s the two side by side. A vintage and a contemporary view!Scenes you’d like to see? famous watering hole you think I should recreate in paint? i’d love to hear your suggestions. Drop me a line using the contact form or say hello online with facebook, twitter or instagram.
