Took the opportunity this week to have a clear out and a Spring clean in the studio. I also changed up some of the artworks on the wall. The trusty Expressionist poster (a crumpled one from a Berlin exhibition that has followed me to every studio space i’ve ever had) made way for some contemporary artists and illustrators.
Now I have these beautiful pieces on display above my desk… Here are the links to their amazing shops in case you’d like to browse the artwork too!
So i’m feeling much happier with the space. Hoping to get down to IKEA in the weeks ahead for some more houseplants. It’s still missing green, although I’m lucky to have it in abundance outside my window. It’s going to be a strange experience after this lockdown period… but I also need to stock up on some of the frames that I like to use (I order in a lot of Nielsen aluminium style frames but I really enjoy getting creative with the IKEA deep box styles – See my various cutout experiments).Without visitors it’s all too easy to avoid properly tidying the space at the end of each day. Instead I find myself trying to cram in a few extra minutes on a project before i’m called back to the school run or kids bedtime. At the moment it feels like a false economy. It’s never that productive. It also becomes more difficult to work within a cramped studio. There’s lots of great advice out there about clearing the decks, throwing away (recycling) materials that are never going to be used again (I used to terrible at hoarding scraps of cardboard and paper in case I might use them in future). Let’s see how long I can keep the Spring clean tidiness going this time 🙂
Studio Appointments
I’m considering opening up the studio for appointments again from the beginning of July. If you’re interesting in stopping by to see an original painting or would like to browse the cards and prints, drop me a line using the contact details here. It’s likely to be just the one weekday and one evening to start with, possibly Mondays.
