Need somewhere for your mind to escape to today? May I suggest you allow your imagination to wander off into this colourful place… Iguazu Falls in Argentina! This stunning location was chosen for a vibrant commission, with lots of lush greenery, flowing water and local wildlife!
My painted version of the waterfall is a 100 x 70cm canvas, mounted within a 105.5 x 75.5cm white floater frame. It fills the space nicely and I think the framing style creates a nice window of colour on the wall. I enjoyed playing with the depth and detail… with lots of expressive marks and less defined paint work in the background layers. The foreground is framed with different types of darker foliage poking into the scene, defined with my usual ink outlines.
There’s a lovely detail on the walkway, with a couple of recognisable figures stood looking out from the painting! There was also a request for a coati and a toucan… along with a rainbow appearing through the water vapour from the falls. All of these were fun challenges for an artist that spends most of his time painting pictures of buildings! I took a little time lapse of the main paint layers which you can watch below:
Thank you to our friends Matt and Sarah for commissioning a painting of this wonderful place. I hope I get an opportunity to visit it myself one day!
