At last some painting to share! Here’s a new scene ‘Snowdrops at Mottisfont Abbey’ created for my own interest between other commissioned projects; a celebration of snowdrops and the early signs of Spring! The canvas is 70 x 50 cm and is set within a white floater frame that makes its overall size 74 x 54 cm.The scene, as with many of my feature artworks, has been pieced together from different viewpoints. For anyone who hasn’t visited; the railings in the front protect the spring/pool that flows out into a burbling stream. The mossy feel of the old trees and the dappled shade is such an interesting contrast with the sweep of lush green lawn. A great excuse to play with leaf shapes and some more expressive brushstrokes between the ink outlines. I’ve put together a video below featuring some time-lapse footage, as well as a little walkaround to try and capture some of the surface details:The original will go up on display in the studio; the first one featured in the refreshed space. This one will definitely go out to the printers for a limited edition art print. I think it will also make a lovely Spring greeting card. I’ll post updates here on the blog and on social media once they are available for anyone who might be interested. You can follow updates with facebooktwitterinstagram or here on the studio blog.
