From Newcastle to Winchester to Norway. Sometimes projects can connect over a surprising time and distance. I recent completed this new painting commission for Jotron; an original acrylic and ink illustration of a the new head office in Larvik, Norway. Here’s the composition sketch that I worked up before going on to the painting stage…

The finished artwork was approx 76 x 46cm created on canvas board. It completed a set of three scenes which started way back in my earliest days of ‘trying to make a living’ from my artwork… and shortly after graduating from Newcastle University. You can see that first study of a Cramlington business park (!) and the follow up picture from a new office in Tjodalyng here. It was a relatively straightforward brief; my job made much easier by the client who provided photo and video references whenever I needed them. The architecture of the building was deceptively simple… so I must admit the clean lines and subtle angles were difficult to capture… but i’m hoping i’ve caught the feeling of open sky in the subtle colours and reflective surfaces.

I framed the piece here in the studio before arranging delivery. The final size coming to 100 x 70cm with a reasonable mount. I had to snap this quick, reflection heavy, photo of the final artwork before wrapping and getting in away with the courier. It was sent on with 5 x framed reproduction prints to be given as corporate gifts. A big thank you goes out to Paul for coming back to commission this piece and all the best to the Jotron team in their new building!
