I don’t think there are many more challenging facades, than Harrods in London. The scale of the building makes it incredibly difficult to capture the distant ends of Brompton Road and Hans Crescent. Yet any Harrods illustration needs to try and capture the ornate details key to its history, identity and prestige. Earlier this year I was asked to create this black and white line Harrods illustration. It was drawn for Fechner Endelsthal; a German company; Supplying highly polished stainless steel and brass components for interiors and yachts. They were keen to have an example of one of their top clients to fit with a new website design. I do like an architectural challenge!

The ’simple’ line drawing style fitted in with the crisp modern feel of their site. I understand it also echoed the printed materials/brochures. Wrestling with the composition was the hard part; finding a viewpoint and perspective that felt natural. But once that was pieced together the drawing was straightforward. I created the picture in Fresco; directly on my iPad Pro using the Apple Pencil. The final artwork was delivered in a hi-res file for print; with a streamlined version ready for use on the web.

Thank you to Caroline for commissioning me to create this piece. It’s looking great up on the website! Check the banner below for more of my commercial projects and collaborations…
