Following on from my Northumberland postcard (featuring a sketch of Lindisfarne Castle)… this new digital sketch was inspired by a story from a local family. They described to me the most atmospheric hike I could imagine, scaling the slopes of Mt Fuji at Night. Their tale of the lights bobbing and twinkling as they followed the hiking trails was most evocative! So this is my imagined view, ‘Mt Fuji NIght Lights’, of the trail leading up the mountain.
The iPad has become a wonderful for tool for play as well as for work… and i’ve really enjoyed exploring some colour studies and looser drawings in between the more labour intensive canvases. I turned this rather blue ‘Mt Fuji Night Lights’ sketch into my explorer postcard for this month. Printed on nice paper here in the studio; it’s fascinating to see how the ink behaves on the surface. A mix of hand drawn gestures in a digital app then applied to a real textured surface. I have 8 free postcards to send out; sharing a little art through the post. Send it to yourself or send it to a friend!
…and if you miss out on this month’s ‘Mt Fuji Night Lights’, i’m already looking at a special end of November/December postcard… so keep an eye on the blog or sign up for email updates. I try to send subscribers a little heads up first before posting online!
