It’s the first painting of the new year! Always a tough one to get into after taking time off from the studio. It only takes a couple of weeks away from the painting (especially i’m working on lots of commercial projects or digital designs) to feel that rustiness again. So perhaps it was a good choice to go with something impressionistic to properly kick start my January. So here’s a new acrylic and ink illustration of the Rose Garden at Mottisfont Abbey.
This lovely old house and gardens in Hampshire is run by the National Trust. My panting is inspired by their beautiful walled garden, pieced together from some of its most recognisable features. There’s lots of greenery and colourful floral sprays. Hopefully if you’ve visited, it will have the right feel and atmosphere to it… and I think it’s gong to make a lovely Spring/Summer greeting card. I’ve got my fingers crossed this might soon be available in the Mottisfont shop alongside my snowdrops illustration. You can take a look at the time-lapse capture below and watch me wrestle with the foliage! 😆
This Rose Garden original will soon be listed on my online shop, along with a print edition, card and possibly a gift mug too!
