Here’s a little canvas painting I completed this week. A Sunny study of the British Ambassador’s Residence in Italy. The Villa Wolkonsky is a fascinating aristocratic oasis in Rome surrounded by greenery and crossed by thirty-six spans of the Neronian aqueduct dating back to the 1st century AD. One of my clients is heading there later this month for a trade event and wanted something ‘Handmade in Hampshire’ (one of their great tag lines) to take along as a gift.

Drawn to Architecture!

They knew that i’d be interested in the building… but it was a nice challenge to try and incorporate the Roman architecture too. I brought them together into what I hope is a plausible scene, despite the actual layout of the grounds spanning a much larger area. Here is a little time-lapse of the painting coming together!

A big thank you to David and Jayne at Yarty for this commissioned painting of the Villa Wolkonsky. If you’d like to work with me on a similar project, please feel free to drop me a line.
