I hope you are having a good Summer break. It has been pretty sunny here in Hampshire as we juggle freelance projects with the kids being off school. Lots of camps, arranged play dates with friends and National Trust properties have seen us through so far! We are also fast approaching our family get-away, an annual trip down to the West Country and the North Cornish Coastline. Knowing that, after a week of rest and sea air, I always come back with a head full of potential paintings… I decided to try and get ahead of the curve and create something before we go! Hence this new colour study on canvas ‘Porthcothan Sun’. Painted from references gathered over several years of visiting the beautiful bay at Porthcothan.
Above you can see the digital sketch made in Adobe Fresco on my iPad. Before the composition was projected up onto a 60 x 60cm canvas (New tech very much crossed with old OHP tech!). In the Timelapse below you can hopefully see the fun I had playing with the paint. Nothing like an expressive sweep of colour to put you in a holiday mood.
Fingers crossed there will be time during our visit to get out and explore with the sketchbook… hopefully I’ll be able to post a few photos and drawings here on the blog. Do you have place you travel back to regularly? A favourite spot that draws you in? Do get in touch and send me your suggestions.
