As the weather heats up it can do strange things to the acrylic. The paint gets that little bit thicker. It ridges and bumps as the brush flows across the canvas. It can make for some expressive results… something that was very helpful in one area of this new painting. But perhaps not so good for those accurate skyscraper shapes. This new ‘Shanghai Pink’, like many of my feature works, has been sat in the corner of my studio waiting for it’s time on the easel. I was delighted to finally pick it up and see where it led.
It’s not a commissioned piece. Just one of hundreds of ideas for personal pieces that continually crash around my brain. It’s a thin profile canvas, 50 x 70cm, and mounted here within a white floater frame.
Here’s a video walk-around of the painting details. Unfortunately I didn’t get a time-lapse for this one. Just too eager to get stuck into some colours. The composition was built from several online references. I’ve probably got a few buildings wrong (and if it’s anything like the London skyline it’s probably already out of date!). But it’s a bright distraction for a hot week and I enjoyed letting loose with the brushes.
