I have some digital drawings of Winchester to share with you today. A very blue tone take on the City! These line drawings (with some limited shading and block colours) are due to be installed as window vinyl artwork at the new surgery building currently taking shape on Upper Brook Street. These are a mixture of new drawings and adapted pieces from my Winchester back catalogue. Created on iPad using Adobe Fresco with a high enough resolution to print at scale.

Hopefully these scenes are pretty recognisable for anyone who knows Winchester City Centre. But for anyone who doesn’t, the above is a view of the City Museum building… looking along the Cathedral approach and along its avenue of trees (The white column is the light sculpture at the entrance to the Cathedral Green).

Above you can see the full spread of the intended installation. There are ten large panes of glass that look out onto the one-way system. The larger artworks need to split across several panels. The most complex of the compositions adapted for this project was the Winchester Collage scene below. As the title suggests, it is already a puzzle of different elements from around the City. Editing those into the light blue colour scheme took some time. It also required more subtle textured changes to the flat solid colours to help separate certain areas. It’s spread across four panels and between the first two of these will be a door. A complicated arrangement that I hope will work when installed.

There are also two edited versions of ‘The Square’ and ‘Buttercross & Bunting’, which are long standing designs and part of my stationery offering.

Last but not least is a cool view of King Alfred on his plinth…

It wont be long before these get installed at the site, so hopefully I can check back soon with real life pictures. But feel free to leave me a comment and let me know what you think of the designs so far. Thank you to the partners and team at St Clements for commissioning this window vinyl artwork. If you’d like to work with me on a similar project, please get in touch.
