Here are a few pages from my recent Kefalonia Sketchbook! We travelled, just the four of us as a family, during the Easter holiday. We took a week away to the Ionian Islands. It was perhaps the first time; really since they were babies. The kids are now both old enough to get around with little travel bags under their own steam. We had a brilliant time exploring Kefalonia with its shady coves and rugged landscapes. There were olive groves and lemon trees everywhere. And it was out of season, so extremely quiet… but the cooler weather was perfect for Swallows and wildflowers. My two even joined me for a few sketches. A very proud moment!

Here are my Kefalonia Sketchbook pages, expressive drawings created quickly with graphite sticks and a little travel watercolour box.

Kefalonia (Cephalonia/Κεφαλονιά) is an island in the Ionian Sea, west of mainland Greece. Its capital, Argostoli, is built on a hillside overlooking a narrow harbor. Kefalonia’s indented coastline is made up of limestone cliffs, bays and short strips of white sand, like Myrtos Beach in the north. Many beaches are only accessible on foot or via narrow twisting roads.
We hired a little car and braved many of those winding roads! It made for quite an adventure, but well worth it for seeing those beautiful coastal towns. I took plenty of photos too and hope to find time later this year for a couple of canvases inspired by our trip.
