Here’s one from the fictional world! If you’re a fan of sitcoms Black Books may be up there on a list of favourites. It has certainly been one of mine! This little study features the shop front as it is dressed for the show. The exterior was filmed at a real bookshop Collinge & Clark on Leigh St in London.
The idea came from a wonderful hashtag over on twitter this week – #DrawYourBookshop – initiated by publisher @selfmadehero. Well worth a look for all the fantastic images made by professional artists, graphic novel illustrators and members of the public. The call-out was for any and all to support bookshops during lockdown and raise awareness with a quick sketch or artwork of their local favourite store. I do LOVE a shopfront… so it was easy to share one of my previous building studies of a local favourite @pgwellsbookshop (a wonderful bookshop and it rightly gets lots of love). You can see that one further back in my blog timeline.
Perhaps it was inevitable, but once the ‘Black Books’ gifs were shared I just had to give this a go. So here it is, a box frame cut paper painting of the hilarious fictional bookshop! I suspect this will prompt lots of ideas and suggestions for more fictional settings… do any come to mind for you? As always you can drop me a line using the contact form.
