I’m back on the World Series trail with a new colour study on acrylic paper. ‘Dubrovnik, Croatia’ is a city on the Adriatic Sea in the region of Dalmatia, in the southeastern semi-exclave of Croatia. It is historically known as Ragusa and continues to be one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean. In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in recognition of its outstanding medieval architecture and fortified old town. It’s that distinctive appearance that I suspect led the HBO series Game of Thrones to use Dubrovnik as its filming location for the city of King’s Landing.
My painting focuses on the old harbour, the stunning blue sea contrasting with the vibrant orange rooftops. Acrylic and ink on A3 paper, mounted within a 60 x 50cm white frame.
‘Dubrovnik, Croatia’ is No. 33 on my random destinations from around the world. A self initiated series that I started after the birth of my youngest (Travel was curtailed for a while and this became a visual wish list). Either locations i’d love to visit for the first time, or places i’d be desperate to get back to.
